About 9-years ago, while we were visiting my niece in
Devon, she excitedly told us we were going to visit a friend of hers who
owned this beautiful and amazing, domestic cat called a 'Bengal'.
She
didn't disclose too much information, so we weren't really sure what we
were in for. When we saw this magnificent brown-spotted cat that had a
coat pattern like a wild leopard, but a really sweet and outgoing
domestic temperament, we completely fell in love with him!
This Bengal cat had such a comical, fun and energetic
nature, he seemed quite intelligent and adored all of the attention we
showered on him -- he was quite the character. Our son, Jay was
just 2-1/2 at the time, but he had a ball playing with this Bengal cat
-- it had him laughing and was ever so gentle with him, it was as if
this remarkable cat somehow knew that Jay was only a baby.
When it was time to return home, Jay didn't want to leave
the Bengal cat, he was heart-broken, crying that he wanted to take the
cat home with us. On our way home, we decided we were going to do
some research and consider getting one of these incredible cats as a
companion for Jay and a family pet. Three months later, we got our
first Bengal cat, Queenie, and Jay was over the moon. They were
practically inseparable.
Soon after we got Queenie, we knew that we wanted to be
even more involved with these beautiful cats, so we did our homework and
bought three foundation queens: one snow spotted (Icelily), one brown
spotted (Saffron), one brown marbled (Elgin) and our first stud boy
(Akers). We carefully selected our queens and stud-boy for
excellent type, temperament and all are carriers of the snow gene,
producing both brown and snow kittens. Since that time, we have retired
Akers and added two studs and another queen to our beautiful Bengal
family.
Our GCCF breeding prefix name -- 'Jayuzuri', was chosen to honour
our beloved, only child, Jay, who inspired us to become involved with
these cats and to describe the Bengal cats themselves. 'Uzuri' is
Swahili for 'beautiful' and Bengal cats are both physically beautiful
and have beautiful natures, like our son, Jay, so what could be more
apropos?
We love all of our cats (and our dog!) and it is a pleasure
sharing our home and our lives with these special animals. All of
our cats and kittens live with us, in our home and enjoy loads of love
and attention. We enjoy visitors, so if you would like to visit
and meet our Bengal family, just phone us on 0117 9076301 and we'll
arrange a time.
